From Susan, Mid-Cape Immigrant Rights Steering Committee member (Yarmouth representative)

I wanted to invite and encourage you to join us on Tuesday, Dec. 2nd (6pm, Yarmouth Town Hall) when our working group (“Yarmouth For Everyone,”) will present our resolution to the Yarmouth Select Board for consideration and vote. This date has been much anticipated (and several months in the making!). We are hoping you can join us in solidarity and support. We are choosing to be hopeful that the resolution will pass, though it may not be unanimous and some residents may speak against its adoption. Be that as it may, in preparation we have worked to encourage a committed show of support on the 2nd, including speakers whose experience, stories, and testimony will send an impactful message to the Select Board members. What will help us so much at this point is if as many supporters as possible join us for the Select Board meeting–showing tremendous support for the resolution with your presence and/or your voice!!! The time for public testimonies in favor of the resolution will be during the “Public Comments” section at the very beginning of the meeting. “Public Comments” will begin at 6:05pm. We are encouraging folks to arrive a few minutes before 6pm so that we can be ready for our witness. (The vote itself is on the agenda for 8:15pm; please stay for the vote if at all possible).

As you know, the wording of our resolution in support of the civil liberties, safety, and human rights of all Yarmouth residents and visitors regardless of immigration status is exactly the same wording as was passed by the Barnstable Town Council this past August. Intentionally, we are urging–in the Mid-Cape area–that the three towns stand together by affirming the same resolution. Once the resolution hopefully is passed in Yarmouth, we look forward to supporting our neighbors in Dennis with the adoption of their respective resolution.

Attached are two flyers–one with the wording of the resolution and its main points, and the second one with perhaps helpful information about Dec. 2nd (time, address, where to park, etc.).

If you have any questions, please be in touch anytime!
