A NEW URGENCY: SCOTUS has agreed to take up a case out of Louisiana where a law was passed that restricts abortion access and was overturned by a Fed Court. The state asked SCOTUS to hear the case, and many predict that the law will be upheld 5-4.  See story here. This makes the efforts to pass the ROE ACT here in MA, even more urgent. It will be up to states to protect our rights!

Several Cape Cod legislators do not support the ROE Act (what is Roe Act?) and several MA Democratic legislators are on the fence. They are being targeted by opponents who are spreading lies about the ROE Act and need to hear from the majority of their constituents who actually do support a right to choose. We are writing postcards to these voters, informing them of the importance of this bill and asking them to contact their legislators to tell them to support the ROE Act. The stakes are high. We can’t let them block this bill and send us back in time.

Even though the president is now facing impeachment, we know his destructive policies will have a long-lasting effect, not the least of which is the stacking of conservative judges on courts, including the Supreme Court. This Trump/Pence agenda has switched the balance of the Supreme Court who may in the next few years repeal the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, guaranteeing safe and legal abortion, ensuring reproductive autonomy for women in America.

Will you join us in protecting our reproductive rights?

RSVP HERE

We know that this reproductive right already has been essentially denied in many states across the nation, and many mistakenly believe that here, in MA, we are lucky not to be affected by these restrictions. But did you know, that even here, our reproductive rights are at risk? If Roe v. Wade were to fall, MA would revert to laws written in 1974, literally taking us back in time? These more restrictive laws use medically inaccurate and inflammatory language, and impose restrictions such as waiting periods and onerous reporting requirements for doctors.

The ROE Act would prepare us in the event Roe v. Wade is repealed by changing this outdated language and expanding the abortion rights of women in MA, solidifying rights here in the event the Supreme Court tries to repeal them. The ROE Act would stop the discriminatory practice of barring those who use public funds from obtaining abortion, would protect young people seeking abortion, and compassionately allow abortion after 24 weeks in the cases of fatal fetal anomalies. You can read more about the ROE Act on our website here.

PLEASE BRING SOME POSTCARD STAMPS AND/OR A SMALL DONATION!

Small postcard parties have been happening all over Cape Cod, one of our leadership committee has been funding much of the costs out of pocket! We would like to be able to reimburse her for some of these expenses. We also need to cover the costs of the room. We cannot take checks made out to Cape Cod Women for Change, because of the way our fundraising mechanism works, so we welcome cash donations, or if you want to make an online donation you can do it here.
