This bill to remove archaic laws passed! YOUR VOICES WERE HEARD AND MADE A DIFFERENCE! Did you know laws still on the books in MA make abortion illegal? Threats to Roe v. Wade are threats to women’s rights in MA!

We thank each of you who made a call! This was a bit of a struggle with the numbers of pro-life legislators in MA, but it passed! We know of at least one local legislator who had told us he did NOT support this because he is pro-life, but after hearing from constituents and with an election looming, he voted to support this.
Did you know that MA is one of 10 states that has laws on the books that state abortion is illegal?
Yes, it’s true. (See map below.) Many consider our commonwealth a blue state, but often when it comes to laws for women, it’s still PURPLE.
This session we have supported the bill to remove Archaic Laws from the books. (Read a PDF FAQ about the law here.) It passed the Senate last January, but the house has yet to take it up, and the session ends July 31.
Now is the time to ACT!! Now, more than ever as there is a serious threat to Roe v Wade.
PLEASE contact your state rep. We need to ask them IF THEY WILL SUPPORT THIS BILL and furthermore, ask them to write a letter to House Speaker, Robert DeLeo and share that letter with you.
The information below is from our sister perSisters at NARAL Prochoice Mass. They are asking you to CALL your state rep. We want you to contact your rep, and understand some of you aren’t comfortable making a call – in that case please send an email using the script as a guide, we’ve added language for you to consider an email.

FROM NARAL:
Together, we can ensure that, regardless of what happens on the federal level, Massachusetts law unequivocally protects women’s right to access abortion care.
Call your State Representative NOW and ask them to tell Speaker DeLeo to bring S.2260 to a vote.

That’s it! Ready? Here’s a call script to follow (use this in an email if you aren’t comfortable making a call – but PLEASE contact your rep!)
- Hello, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent of Representative [NAME].
- I’m calling to ask Representative [NAME] to weigh in with the Speaker of the House, to bring S. 2260 to the floor for a vote.
- (If they don’t know what you’re talking about, explain to them what the archaic laws repeal is:) Though abortion is currently legal in the state of Massachusetts, Justice Kennedy’s retirement from the Supreme Court all but guarantees Roe v. Wade will be overturned. There are archaic laws on the Massachusetts books that criminalize abortion, and when Roe is overturned, that law could be enforced. That law would be eliminated by S. 2260.
- (Explain to them why it matters to you. Some ideas:) We can’t control what happens to abortion access nationally, but we CAN make sure that it is always safe and legal in Massachusetts. Massachusetts must be a leader of reproductive rights, and the criminalization of abortion would force women back into a world of back-alley abortions, endangering them and their families.
- Thank you for taking the time to talk with me.
