GUN BUYBACK in Falmouth Saturday, June 9

Residents wanting to dispose of unwanted firearms in their homes will have the opportunity at a Falmouth Gun Buyback Coalition event, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 9, from 9 AM to noon at Falmouth Police Station.
The coalition will give gift certificates to Shaw’s grocery store, $75 for a semi-automatic weapons, including pistols, rifles and shotguns, and $50 for all other guns.
The coalition has organized the buyback to make the community safer by removing guns that are no longer wanted from homes.
The group is not anti-gun, but recognizes that often there are unwanted guns in homes, from inherited guns, to gun-owner’s who are no longer interested in owning a gun or keeping a gun in their home.
According to the coalition’s Facebook page:
Cape and Islands District Attorney, Michael O’Keefe, has granted a one day amnesty for the event allowing people to bring guns to the FPD without the need of a firearms license. All guns surrendered will be done anonymously.
Please bring guns unloaded in a carrier with the safety mechanism on, if you do not know how to disarm the gun, leave it in the car and a police officer will help, again, you do not have to show a firearms license for this event.
An article published in the Falmouth Enterprise describes the purpose of the buy-back program:
The coalition has organized the buyback to make the community safer by removing guns that are no longer wanted from homes.
“We’re not taking a political stand; it’s simply to promote safety,” coalition member Richard Duby said.
