Please sign and share this petition, let’s tell the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates, give us a recall provision!
There is none in the county charter as it is now, but the assembly is currently considering a recall provision. Of course, the recall process should not be easy – to protect it from abuse -, but there should bea process in place. Yes, the voting booth is the place to recall, unless you have an elected official who commits a crime or, like Ron Beaty Jr., has become a national embarrassment.
Beaty has trashed the #MeToo movement, promoted a bait and kill program for sharks, insulted the students survivors of the Parkland shooting – making national news – and more. He uses his Twitter account to seek attention for bad behavior (see a few of his tweets at the bottom of the page) and has managed to get national attention for his angry attacks on the student who survived the school shooting in Florida. He is representing Cape Cod to the rest of the country, and we need to show he is not actually representing us.
He is a defender of the second amendment, yet because he was arrested and served time in federal prison for writing letters threatening to kill his ex-wife, a state senator, a US senator, and a (Republican) president (he is a Trump-worshiping Republican) he is not allowed, by law, to own a gun.
He was known as a constant gadfly before he was elected, so yes, he was elected despite his reputation. But since his election he has abused his position, using it as a bully-pulpit for issues outside of his purview as a county commissioner.
This is the text from the petition. Please sign this petition and share it!
County Commissioner Ron Beaty Jr has proven himself not only ineffective, but a harmful addition to the County government of Cape Cod. With his wildly divisive attitude, and dismissal of constituent concerns, he has shown an ineptitude that is truly remarkable in it’s overtness.
With his evident lack of knowledge regarding aquaculture and environmental issues (https://www.metro.us/news/cape-cod-politician-suggests-killing-great-white-sharks willfull ignorance of the insidious and prevalent issue of sexual harassment and violence (http://www.capecodtimes.com/news/20171101/cape-women-confront-beatys-metoo-criticism and more recently, his atrocious attacks on gun violence victims (http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/381775-gop-state-candidate-refuses-to-apologize-for-calling-parkland this felon needs to be recalled from elected office, and told in no uncertain terms that this reprehensible behavior is completely unacceptable in civil discourse, especially as an elected official seeking higher office (https://capecodtoday.com/article/2017/12/21/236414-Ron-Beaty-Run-State-Representative-Barnstable-5th).
While there is currently no provision for recall of county commissioners, the hope is to incite conversation and create pressure to amend our local County Charter to include such a provision.
Beaty is prolific letter-writer and frequently comments on local news stories.
In addition to holding his seat as a county commissioner, Beaty is running in the GOP primary against State Rep Randy Hunt.
Please sign and share, for decency and civility in government, especially local government. Cape Cod needs representative government. This man is not representative of who we are.
***AND***
WE HAVE A CHANCE TO ELECT A MAN WHO WILL ADD BALANCE TO THE COMMISSION AND KEEP IT FUNCTIONING WHILE WE WAIT FOR EITHER A RECALL OR THE BALLOT TO REMOVE BEATY.
Please support Ron Bergstrom in his campaign for County Commissioner. We need Ron Bergstrom as a balance to Beaty on this commission until voters can resolve the problem ourselves! Bergstrom is a long-serving member of the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates and understands the work that needs to be done by the Commission. Bergstrom is in the process of launching his campaign and is up against the big money the GOP raises for all levels of elections. This election is county-wide and we can help him. Please help Ron Bergstrom by donating whatever you can: https://secure.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/62971
Ronald Beaty Jr:
He needs to go ASAP
He is in a professional position where he constantly conducts himself in a rude, condescending, sexist, ignorant manner. He is thereby totally unprofessional and needs to be removed.
Get him out!
Since you are not registered as a PAC with the OCPF, then you are illegally raising funds for a political candidate. Moreover, the candidate in question has not established a depository bank account with the OCPF, but appears to be raising funds via your illicit efforts, which is a further violation of the law.
Nice try Ron. Please file a complaint. We are completely in compliance. We are not collecting or donating money via our 501(c)4 but promoting a candidate’s efforts whose ACT BLUE account would not have been set up if not registered. oh well.
Looks like Ron is watching our website and our Facebook page etc … this is how he operates with anonymous accounts. We will file any complaints necessary if he crosses any lines with us.
WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT.
