One of the issues on our priority state legislation list is the funding of a housing court expansion. A message from Annette R. Duke, Esq., of  Massachusetts Law Reform Institute.

Next Step – Community Meetings
On July 17, 2017, the FY18 budget expanded the housing court to all remaining unserved cities and towns and the Governor quickly announced vacancies for two housing court judges. Click to see the law. There are many moving parts and many questions about how expansion will happen.

MLRI – with local partners who worked for the expansion – will hold a series of community meetings to hear from Housing Court Chief Justice Tim Sullivan about what the Housing Court is putting in place and plans for the upcoming year; and for members of the community to ask questions and provide thoughts about expansion. We hope you can join us for these regional meetings. Please let others in your community know.

We will send out another email the first week of September with information about where meetings will be. It is very exciting to be able to start the expansion and put the many pieces together that afford all access.
