Safe Communities Act hearing this Friday

The Joint Committee on Public Safety will hold a hearing on our top legislative priority this year, the Safe Communities Act, this Friday, June 9, from 10 am to 3 pm (or as late as it takes) in Rooms A-1 and A-2.

Together with our coalition partners, we have assembled a series of excellent panels, including mayors, legislators, leaders of immigrant and civil rights advocacy organizations, doctors, teachers’ unions, faith organizations, and a broad range of social service agencies and community groups.

We also expect hundreds of people from across the state to join us at the State House to show their support – through their testimony, or just their physical presence. Please join us!

In particular, we’d like to encourage you to make appointments with your legislators and pay them a visit on Friday to urge them to support the Safe Communities Act. If they’ve already cosponsors, visit anyway – to thank them and encourage them to rally even more support. FYI, we will have briefing materials for you in Room 437

As a follow-up, on Monday, June 12, we’re asking everyone to call your legislators about the Safe Communities Act. Even if you don’t get a live person, leave a voicemail with your name, address, and your message of strong support for the bill! Encourage 5 friends or relatives to call as well!

If you don’t know your legislators, find them here. Make sure to add them to your address book for easy reference in the future!
