Call to Action: Tom Price, confirmation hearing HHS, amid questions of insider trading

Tom Price is up for confirmation for Secretary of Health and Human Services, the department responsible for the Affordable Care Act.

But now we learn, Tom Price may have broken the law and abused his position to gain from investments. According  Reuters, “U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to run the Department of Health and Human Services may have broken the law by making a stock purchase just before he introduced legislation that would have benefited the firm, the Senate’s leading Democrat charged on Tuesday.”

From Forbes:

In December, the Wall Street Journal reported that Price “traded more than $300,000 in shares of health-related companies” in just four years, “while sponsoring and advocating legislation that potentially could affect those companies’ stocks.” He did this while serving on powerful, health-related committees in Congress. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means (which affects Medicare) and the Congressional Health Care Caucus. In 2015, Price also became Chair of the House Committee on the Budget.

A letter by Senator Elizabeth Warren lays out all of the concerns that impact us, his vow to repeal the Affordable Care Act, included in this letter.

If that is not bad enough he’ll be the Trumps healthcare hatchet man. More from Forbes:

An avowed opponent of ACA/Obamacare, Price, a congressman and retired orthopedic surgeon, had proposed a bill that would have allowed physicians to “balance bill” rather than accept Medicare rates for procedures. This is a euphemism for charging whatever you want and having the patient make up the difference, part of the cynically and misleadingly named “Patient Empowerment Act.” This and the “empowering” repeal of protections for women again demonstrates the triumvirate’s (Trump/Pence/Price) skill in gaslighting the public.
