FINALLY! Equal Pay Bill Vote this Thursday

We need your help! Without intervention, the pay gap will not close before 2058. Presently, Massachusetts women are making 82 cents on the dollar compared to their male co-workers. Women of color earn as little as 54 cents on the dollar. For women and their families in Massachusetts, this means a loss of about $10,000 a year.
We have the power to change this course and to close the gender wage gap for women in the Commonwealth. But we must act now.
Please contact your State Representative, contact information for Cape Codders is below or use this search program for detailed information for your State Rep (anywhere in MA,) it also allows you to simply send a message – already filled out but something you can edit – with a couple of clicks.
The message we need to send:
______________
Please vote in favor of the Equal Pay bill. A bill that:
- Provides employers with a much-needed definition of comparable work
- Prevents employers from firing employees for discussing their compensation with coworkers
- Bans employers from asking for salary history as part of the interview process
Please don’t support amendments that will weaken this bill.
Thank you for your support for working women in Massachusetts.

Seventy years ago, Massachusetts enacted the first Equal Pay Act in the nation. It is now time to lead again with a comprehensive bill that is good for women and economy.
Write to your Representative TODAY to encourage him/her to vote yes on Equal Pay.
The Senate passed this bill in January, and finally the Massachusetts House will be voting on the bill Thursday July 14.
